Panic setting in, markets down 4%+ on a holiday

Monday, January 21st, 2008

There is some chatter going on over on wallstreak today, even though the stock markets are closed, because of the crash in the futures this morning. KOdoubleUR posted a link to this video of the guy from HighProbabilityTrade blog going bust on a long position he took just at the close on Friday afternoon. Warning: there is a lot of swearing – it reminds me of how I sounded when I traded futures. Although, thankfully, I didn’t go bust.

I hope the best for the guy at HighProbabilityTrade – he is still young and should be able to get over it. Things like this happen in life – you just have to do the best with where you happen to be at the moment. Remember your mistakes so that you won’t repeat them, but don’t let them keep you down. Make use of your suffering.

New Wallstreak Feature: Create your own rooms

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Day trading chat rooms I’ve added a new feature to wallstreak so that you can create your own public or private rooms. I am hoping this will be useful for a couple of reasons. One, you can create your own wallstreak room for anything you want – a “dummy trades” room, for example – or a room for your blog readers. Or if you trade with others (e.g. with a group at a prop firm), you can create a room private to your group.
This is the other thing – rooms can be private. When they are set to private, only those you invite to the room will be able to read and post in the room. None of the messages will be posted to the front page. You could even create a private room where you are the only member – to keep a trading diary of what stocks you are watching or ideas you have.
When you create a room, you can include an image, url and description. The name of the room shows up in large font on the top of the page. Eventually I’d like to make this page layout much more customizable to the creator of the room.
I’ve created a public room for position trades and one for wallstreak help. There is now a tab at the top for “Rooms” – which lists all rooms that you have access to.
Let me know what you think and if you have ideas. Thanks!

New Wallstreak Server

Monday, December 17th, 2007

I was out in the garage all evening installing a new server for wallstreak. It should speed things up a bit.

Better Archive viewing on WallStreak

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

With the full-time job, I don’t have a lot of time to spend on WallStreak during the day – so I end up spending a lot of time reading the archives in the evening. The way the messages were displayed previously was pretty slow to read, so I fixed it up tonight so that it is a lot easier to read quickly:

WallStreak meetups

There was a WallStreak meetup in San Francisco last week. Awesome. I’m going to have to organize one on the East Coast.

Wallstreak.com – the best source for real-time trading and market information

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Every day I go over all the posts on wallstreak to get a feel for what happened from the guys who watched it all day. This one made me laugh today:

Paamayim Nekudotayim

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Wallstreak is running a lot smoother now that I fixed an embarrassing software glitch. The increased user load was causing a lot of problems until I rearranged the Paamayim Nekudotayims. It is surprising how much impact a runaway Paamayim Nekudotayim can have.
