Depression is a disease

How differently would you feel if someone you loved was dying of depression instead of cancer?
Would you judge them on their illness?
Would you blame them for their disease?
I can't stand ignorant people who have no sympathy for the mentally ill. It makes me want to use my kung fu skills and beat the shit out of them.
Someone who is diabetic takes medicine because an organ is not secreting the correct amount of chemicals. When the brain errors in the same way, it is suddenly the fault of the victim.

The depression issue is complicated. Anyone who
wants to chastise someone who is depressed needs their ass kicked, but the idea that the docs think they have a handle on it is absolute twaddle.

There is much that medical science needs to know about clinical depression, much less the human brain and nervous system. One thing that must be understood is that some folks are just plain wired different. How that can be viewed as a personal choice by some folks is a justification, at worst, for abuse by the uncaring and insensitive.

We have a long way yet to go on the matters of diagnosis and treatment.

People don't get it, you just can't snap out of it. I agree with Monksdream, we do have a long way to go for treatment and diagnosis

What the hell is up with people lately??It's not like it's our fault we are depressed, it's not blameworthy at the least. IT'S A DISEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE!!! Pretty much we are on our own, because the medicine even has a risk of suicidal thoughts as a side effect...so what do we do now? Deal with it...We have to depend on eachother because the medical "PROFESSIONALS" don't even have a clue at this point...You can't really blame yourselves, ya know?
