Insanity is an interesting thing. For some people it is easy to see that it is only a disease and once they are treated with medication, they are themselves once again. For others, it seems rooted in their core and inseperable from the personality. It can also be hard to judge insanity because of this. One definition of it might be the opposite of reason. Bobby Fischer seems very unreasonable. For example, from his website:

On the other hand, cigarettes, which of course are pure poison, are freely available in unlimited quantities in the prison and tax free at that! But alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited! There are only 2 possibilities we can think of: Either the Japanese government is composed of ignorant fools or else they're deliberately trying to debilitate and kill their prisoners.
