Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
Despite drastic ups and downs, HITK is holding onto and moving up from its 4 year uptrend.
Holders of XING suffered some anal reaming today. Ouch.
AMED broke out to a new high today and the chart looks tempting.
BONT over $20 would just have to go up more and more and more - no resistance.
CONN - the next ERS?? Anyway, it looks good to me.
Speaking of new all-time highs, have you seen WEN? You're not going to believe this, but even me - a total health nut - can't resist the temptation to buy two Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers when I am drunk. You wouldn't believe how devilishy good they can taste after years of organic and whole grain foods. But then you feel like shit later.
If you think these picks look good, you should check out this!.

A lot of sectors made a cross below CCI -100, which is bearish. Basically I don't think it is a good time to buy or sell now. It is a time to keep up on your scans to be prepared to short or buy when the time comes.

Monksdream_98

Maoxian mentioned Monksdream in his Sunday night chat (By the way, I think giving a donation for his weekly ETF report is worth it. Even I, a cheap bastard, donated. Unfortunately only very little, though, because I am a cheap bastard).
Anyway, I always enjoyed reading Monksdream's newsletter that he used to email out and then publish at www.mymarketstreet.net (URL expired a while ago). He then sort of mysteriously disappeared and I lost communication with him. Now it looks like he is back to posting every once in a while on one of the boards. I just emailed him tried to email him (everything bounced back as undeliverable) to see if he is around. Here is an example [pdf] of one of his old newsletters.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
CWTR had a very nice looking breakout today.
IMGC is holding onto a nice 5-year trendline as it made a new high today.
The third strongest stock in the market, RURL, made a nice move today.
115 stocks made new all-time highs today, including many of my favorites.
Is FORD breaking its trendline? If I owned FORD, I would have been stopped out under $17. But I also would have been stopped out when it dropped from $17 to $10 in April.

New York City was a fun time. Yesterday was a beautiful day and we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge up to Greenwich Village, where we stayed at the Larchmont Hotel. The only downer was the chess scene at Washington Square Park. None of the old regulars were there and within 5 minutes we were harrassed - some racist psycho was screaming at us and almost threw a handheld radio at my friend's head - and we nearly saw someone get shot. He screamed that the only reason he didn't shoot the other guy was that "he just got out." It was always a little rough down there, but I'd often see some tourists playing a few games and there were always a few decent players. Yesterday when I went, there were just drug dealers and houdlums.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
I will be in NYC until Wednesday so I probably won't be able to post picks until Wednesday night.
I found a full package of Vantage cigarettes on the ground one day on a walk. I am going to smoke one tonight. "Rich Taste, Low Tar." Still really, really bad for you.
IBD is blaming the Russell index rebalancing on the spike in volume in the last hour of trading. Would this be the cause of the spike in the QQQQ? I guess, don't ask me. But I am still going to watch it - it broke down CCI -100 (bearish) with those chunks.
They must be right, though, because the volume advance page is all wacky today.
TLWT doesn't mind the down market as it makes new highs.
It looks like it is time to short ABAX again.
Maybe FOSL, too.
If ASKJ breaks down $20, it is a sure bet short.
Wow, GOOG looks to break $300 this time.
You think these picks look good? - You should check out this!

I made some homemade pesto tonight. Man, pesto with whole wheat pasta and a glass of red wine - damn that is so good.
Nothing like a low tar cigarette to aid in the digestion.
If there is only one thing you take from this website, let it be this: do not underestimate the power of forgiveness.

Just like that...

I was stopped out of ERS and the Dow wiped out slightly more than half its gains from the April, May and June rally - just in the last two sessions.
Easy come, easy go. Ouch.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
BFAM was up despite the market. It has a nice steady up trend since the beginning of 2003.
One month ago I mentioned KYPH - it had a nice move today. I think you would be lucky to get it anywhere close to its breakout point of $30 now.
Once the strongest in the market, FORD took a big hit today.
My ERS also.
FORD, like a lot of other recent hot symbols, broke down below CCI -100, which is bearish.
Looks like it could be time to short some more TASR.
The artist formerly known as NSI is now named NTRI and traded on the Nasdaq.
CDIS can go to $100, the question is - will it?

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
PENN had a nice strong move today - watch it over $35. It would be a pretty sweet breakout.
Super strong LCAV rarely trades below its 20 dma.
With only 500k float, how much do you think JCTCF will go up tomorrow - 100% or 200%? I will look but not touch.
You think these picks look good? - You should check out this!

The good thing about ETFs for trend traders is that you can almost always find one that is trending. Maoxian has a nice Excel spreadsheet he hands out every so often - you should check it out. Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
Keep an eye on SNDA as it approaches the magic number $50 as well as new highs.
Sell offs like this have always been good buying opportunities for AMHC . Is this time different? I wouldn't buy it yet.
I am reminded once again of my mistake as HANS is the best looking stock in the market today. I hope you learn from my mistake, as I have.
Funny, PARL, which I also sold, is making new highs yet I do not consider selling it a mistake. Why? Because I stuck to my rules.
You think these picks look good? - You should check out this!

COMING SOON! I am going to make a page, similar to the sectors page, that lists ETFs and their charts. Not this weekend as I will be in NYC, but soon. I am excited about this one.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
ERS inched over the 100% gain mark in the portfolio today. Another notch on the belt.
The chart for KEYW looks very nice. Very very nice. I would say it is a b-b-b-b-buy.
Sometimes I think I created this blog to see how much I could possibly embarass myself.
I have to warn you, I have been diagnosed with a severe mental illness in the past ten years.
Muckdog calls his workplace the "fun factory." That muckdog can be a pretty funny guy.
Practically every day now over 100 stocks are making new all-time highs.
Of 3.9 million float, 4.2 million were traded today for SPIR.
I am at a coffee shop and this woman just asked if they had anything with "chee" in it. She meant chai.
Who's the hottest team in the MLB? That's right, the Cleveland Indians.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
The chart for NCTY looks really good.
In seven trading days, DSTI doubled.
Recent IPO WPTE is one to keep an eye on.
CEO of OLGR says it was up 70% on Friday because of a "day-trader frenzy."

"We think we know the reason," David Zuege told Reuters by telephone from company headquarters in Milwaukee. "A reliable source in the market told us the sudden spike was the latest move in the day-trader frenzy to pick up small-cap energy firms.
"But we're not even in the energy business, we make hydraulic equipment and have done for 85 years," he said.
"Last quarter was good and business is good, but nothing for any rational analyst to say would double the price," said Zuege.
"Someone paid $23 for our shares, that's crazy," he said...

RTSX looks just right.
SNMX is another IPO to watch - it is moving up fast.
You think these picks look good? - You should check out this!

2100 is the number to watch this week. But I wouldn't be surprised to see the market pull back a little more.

Better skill next time

Whenever I play poker there is always a lot of talk about luck. Usually it is someone blaming poor luck for their own losing mistakes. Sure, there will be times when you can't get any cards. But that's part of the game! To me, poker is a game of 100% skill. Everyone knows the rules and everyone has the same chance of getting lucky, so the game is about managing your money.
The same is true with the stock market. If you ever lose too much, it is always your own fault, no matter how it happened.

An apple a day...

I think blueberries and pomegranates have the most antioxidants, but many other fruits and vegetables are rich in the little buggers. For apples, the Red Delicious is a sure bet - especially the peel:

Red Delicious, which account for 27 percent of U.S. apple production, has more than six times the antioxidants as the bottom-ranked Empire variety. Northern Spy was No. 2, followed by Cortland, Ida Red, Golden Delicious, McIntosh and Mutsu.
The skin of Red Delicious apples — the most common variety grown in the United States — contains over six times more antioxidant activity than the flesh, according to researchers at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada... And in every variety tested, the skins of the apples contained substantially higher levels of antioxidants than the flesh.

Don't be fooled

Dear readers:
Please don't be fooled by my arrogant, egotistical and sarcastic posts about how awesome I am at everything. I am pretty good, but believe me I make many many mistakes. To be honest, I do many many things wrong. I am an idiot in many many different and embarassing ways. Still, this doesn't really depress me because I think it is a kind of natural human way to be. The key is to understand that you are like this and to try to correct it. If you do that, you instantly succeed because you are doing what is right. Sadly, I fail even at that. Yet I am still optimistic that someday I will be able to do some very little thing that will be barely good and at least contribute something, however small, to the betterment of the world.
Love,
Ugly

Movie scans

Every day and once on the weekends you should scan through stock charts and see what's going on with the market. And once a week or so you should scan the movie page (or website) and see what films are going to be playing next week. This is especially important if you live close to artsy types of theaters that show rare, foreign, and independent movies. Sometimes I forget to run this scan and I am sure I have missed some great movies for it. Because of this scan I have found such gems as Twilight Samurai, Los Olvidados, and Sideways.
Today I found Save the Green Planet! which looks pretty good.

Coed Kickball and Farting in Public

Not to generalize, but in general the best kickball players are straight males, then lesbians, then gay men, and finally straight women. It isn't always the case, but it seems like most of the time it is true. So the best coed kickball teams are usually made up of straight men and lesbians. They will also probably have the poorest sense of fashion.
Also, I have noticed that if you fart in public and are able to completely keep your cool and pretend like nothing happened, no one notices. Even if it is pretty loud. This works best outside, where the noise could have come from something else. The only way they will know it is you is if you are in an enclosed space and it smells.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
CALM continues to be an ugly loser and shorts continue to make a fortune.
KERX is probably one to consider for shorting.
It looks like you can't lose shorting ONXX.
SCHN also looks to go much lower.

One of my favorites, CTRP is looking ready to make new highs.
FORD continues to do what it does best - go up.
NGPS is going at it again.
SRDX looks good.
Finally, one of my very favorites, portfolio pick ERS made a beautiful move today.
You think these picks look good? - You should check out this!

If you want to know how to make a sh@tload of money in the stock market, simply study CMT. Or FORD. Learn everything about them and the way they looked before they made their insane moves. And then wait until another stock looks just like it. All of my fans email me and ask me how I became a super genius at stock picking. This is all I did.
A lot of fans also email me and ask me how I became so good looking, I like to tell them that "this body doesn't just build itself."
A lot of the strongest stocks in the market had nice moves today - which is probably good news for the market. There are a lot of very good looking charts on that list. Despite nearly no change in the major indices today, nearly 100 stocks made new all-time highs. Most of them are on the top 100 alpha list - and the ones that aren't probably will be soon.

It was hot here in Minnesota today. A perfect day for a cold beer and a veggie burger.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
Is it time to short PMTI? Trading under $20 would be a good sign that it is. I would then say "Sell to you!"
The same goes for DECK.

UHCO is very strong even with weakness in the market.
BBD and DRYR had some nice looking block trades on Thursday that could mean better things to come. They are both right at new all-time highs.
GEOI and ABLE are the current mo-mo plays.

The market sold off a bit on Friday. If it closes down again on Monday (e.g. a close below QQQQ $38), I think there is a better chance of the Nasdaq heading back to its 20 or 50dma before possibly coming back up to retest 2100 or continuing down. Depending on how you draw it, some steep trend lines might have been breached on the Nasdaq by Friday's drop.

Don't forget to vote off a stock market blog remainder!

Numi Organic Rainforest Green

Numi's Organic Rainforest Green is a blend of Chun Mee green tea, Yerba Mate and Lemon Myrtle. The organic tea is great tasting and great for you. They also have a variety of Rooibos blends, including a Green Rooibos, which I had never heard of. It "comes from the same plant as Rooibos (Red Tea), yet is not sun dried" and they claim it has more antioxidants than green tea.
More about healthy teas here.

Stray Dogs & Lone Wolves: The Samurai Film Handbook

I just found out about Stray Dogs & Lone Wolves: The Samurai Film Handbook, which is coming out this summer. A list of the actors, directors and films it covers is found here. I haven't seen many reviews, but what I have read is very positive. I also can't find any information about the author, Patrick Galloway. However, the content looks very well thought out and complete, reviewing great samurai movies like Chushingura, Gate of Hell, the Lone Wolf and Cub series, Zatoichi, Musashi Miyamoto, Sanjuro, Seven Samurai, and even the recent Twilight Samurai. I ordered one today.

Ugly Picks

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
SHLD continues to do its thing.
WFMI and URBN both also had strong moves up and they are both places I have shopped in the last week - and I don't do a lot of shopping.
NETL is a pretty recent IPO that had a nice move today and is one to watch.

Recent flier QSII had an ugly red bar on its chart today.
FARO is looking weak.
The 200dma looks too strong for FHRX as it bounces back down.
