Ugly, the levels of allowable concentrations of "stuff" in the water is based on an allowable risk method. If say 400ppm of lead kills 1 person out of say 10,000 people that it's an allowable risk (I'm making up the numbers). At least that's what I remember from my Water Quality course in college.

Tap water is designed to provide the public with engineered clean water, it just so happens that it doesn't "filter" out the drugs everyone is talking about. I guess its up to you if you want to drink tap water, its a personal choice. Me, I like my monthly 10 gallons of water.

ToddinFL: That's the exact reason why people used to drink beer and alcohol instead of water, the alcohol killed all the nasties.

Ugly,

Yes, you can get iceberg water. Check out Glace, for one. (But for all we know they may just be putting tap water in the bottles!) There's some brand of vodka (I forgot the name) that's made with it as well.

Tom: I don't know - possibly. But how harmful is tap water? Are there studies that show it is definitely harmful? I haven't seen any. Otherwise I would probably do it.

Mike, I was about to post the exact same thing that Ugly wrote, I'd be worried about ingesting some pre-historic virus and accidentally killing off the entire human race.

Ugly, even if you spent $10 for yourself on 10 gallons of water per month (that would be 106-12oz bottles or 3.5-12oz bottles per day) wouldn't it be worth it?

Tom: yeah but $5 for 5 gallons adds up - I drink a lot of water. That would be an extra $50 a month or something - for water, which I can get for free. If I found out that it was really harmful, I would gladly pay for something that was not harmful.
Mike: Can you really get that stuff? But who knows what kind of funky prehistoric bacteria could be in there.

Tom - it's true that as long as we feed cows food which can/should be consumed by humans instead of feeding them food which they can easily digest, then we'll have to pump them full of antibiotics. I can think of two simple, effective and blindingly obvious solutions.

Perhaps your best bet would be to get water sourced from Icebergs. That stuff froze long before drugs and pollution were an issue.
