[...] Let this be a warning, I highly suggest that everyone taking this supplment to be extra careful or discontinue it as a precaution. I will update my readers with more information once I know conclusively if Resveratrol was to blame or not. [...]

I have been taking Longevinex for 4 months and like the others, I notice I sleep less but feel rested. I also, have more endurance and stamina. I play 4.0 tennis (doubles) and basketball with church team, so I am in good shape for 62. Before I started resveratrol, I always took Naproxen the day I play and the day after for the sore muscles. I don't get sore or feel tired the next day. The most dramatic change I can attest to is, my office is on the 3rd floor and I take the stairs most days. Before I started taking resveratrol, I would have to pause at the top of the stairs for a minute or more to catch my breath before entering the office. Now, I can walk right in. These are more than subtle!

Ugly well I have not found anyone address the difference between eating some yogurt and drinking Kombucha...I did find this which may lead to more studies in the future..."There is, however, a fighting chance that kombucha may secure a safe spot on the brightly lit shelves of mainstream grocery stores: Dietrich Mateschitz, the man who brought us Red Bull, is about to launch a trio of wellness drinks, including, you guessed it, kombucha."
I guess I prefer it over yogurt because I actually enjoy the flavor, and like the fact it eliminates my over eating habits at night and in the winter months of Michigan when I become a Sloth.
have a peaceful holiday.

Richard: what are the effects you felt from omega-3? And how much do you take? I take flaxseed oil and I also notice some subtle but undeniable effects.
Jason: I'm not currently taking a multivitamin. I don't think anyone knows the effects of resveratrol on pregnant women, but I probably wouldn't take that risk.

Ugly, are you also taking any "one-a-day"-like pills? And does anyone know about risks to pregnant women? (Not that I or my wife are pregnant... yet)

I should be grouchy, I didn't take my Ecinacea this morning, you know how that can make a guy feel.

If you like, you should really check out some of the excellent homeopathic concoctions that have come out lately. They'll give you lots of energy and unlike Resveratrol or any allopathic drugs, they definitely won't have any side-effects. Nature's remedy, and all the anecdotal evidence you could dream of.

Must go, am late for my weekly chiropractor visit. It is the only thing that has kept me cancer-free all my life.

Tyro, what can I say? We are just different types of people. I don't need to correct for anything. If I experience something, I seriously don't care whether its objectively real to an outsider, or wishful thinking, or an acid flashback. Experiences are all that I have, anyway. If 100 scientists wrote 100 papers telling me why red was actually blue, it wouldn't change anything for me. I explore the world and try new things. I don't think that approaching life from the standpoint that everything is a fraud and everyone is a liar is very healthy. I swear, if I did that, I'd be pretty grouchy. hmmm...

I only spoke of the placebo effect because you tied "subtle undeniable effects" to "placebo effects", in your very first comment. You see, when normal people communicate, there are coherent threads of conversation. I'm sure you can find a published study on this in a journal somewhere. :-)

I've been taking 150mg a day (nature's way brand, I think, but I'm out of town right now and can't check) for a few weeks. Like many people, I have been sleeping a little less lately, and feel fine otherwise. I wasn't in bad health in the first place, so I can't say I've seen anything big. As with most supplements I take, I think of them more as preventative/longevity bets.

The one supplement I take that I felt obvious effects from was omega-3/omega-9 pills (mostly from fish oil). I must have been missing whatever they are providing!

Richard - I can't tell if you're just taking the piss, or trying to play both sides.

The placebo effect seems to only affect subjective pain so probably not a big factor here. You say that you don't need to have a good study to know what you experienced. Fine. How do you correct for confirmation bias and wishful thinking? How do you know what you know? If the anecdotes Ugly is soliciting (and his personal experience) have any sway, how is this any different than the subjective experience of homeopathy?

When injected directly into the brain or blood there have been positive effects but trials showed that ingesting Resveratrol did not result in detectable amounts of Resveratrol in the blood so it would be useless as a chemopreventative agent. Without further studies, Ugly is at best taking a drug which has no effect and at worst taking a drug with totally unknown effects.

He says there are no side effects, but all drugs with any positive effect have side effects, it's just how our bodies work. Tests with Resveratrol as a topical agent led to serious photosensitivity and resulted in DNA-strand breaks and cell death, hardly an insignificant effect.. We may learn that beneficial amounts of Resveratrol in the blood may help prevent some cancers, but lead to others. Why jump the gun? The world is awash with snake oil, drugs that are rumored to be suppressed by evil corporations because they would "cure cancer", but inevitably it is the people taking these drugs who are hurt.

I just urge caution, and to remember that we all have these mental biases which could be pushing Ugly into thinking there's a positive effect when there isn't one.

I'm almost done with my first bottle of the same pills your taking. (one a day, but occasionally take 2 by accident) I definately noticed that I couldn't seem to sleep as long after the first day of taking it, but was not feeling any more tired despite that. I just found that I was slower to fall asleep and couldn't seem to sleep in as late. In response I started taking it in the morning instead of at night and that seemed to make it easier to get to sleep. I'm definately working a lot more and a lot harder then I usually do since I started taking it, but this could be a result of better motivation (a couple of really big clients have expressed interest in my software), rather than the pills. "Subtle but undeniable" pretty much sums up how I'd describe it too, which means I'm not really sure if it is the placebo effect I'm feeling or not.

I too am concerned about the studies that showed that humans didn't have a very high serum levels of reversital after taking 25mg because it was getting metabolized too quickly. I'd love to see some data on higher doses like 200+ mg.
