Starter position in eHealth, Inc (EHTH), $33.75

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

I bought about 1/5th of what I’d like my full position in EHTH to be today at $33.75:
EHTH
Why did I buy it today at $33.75? For two simple reasons:
1) I wanted to get my hands on this nice-looking stock.
2) I wanted to buy it on a dip.
I don’t have much, so I can afford a drawdown. But at least I have something, in case I don’t get another chance to buy it before it doubles.
I will fortify this position with more shares when it sets up nicely. If it breaks the trendline, I will sell.
Now I own both of my two current favorite stocks.

The Housing Crisis

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

The United States real estate market continues to look dire:

“We have not seen a nationwide decline in housing like this since the Great Depression,” Mr Stumpf said at a Merrill Lynch & Co banking conference in New York.

“I don’t think we’re in the ninth inning of unwinding this,” he continued, using a baseball reference. “If we are, it’s an extra-inning game.”

Here is another article that talks about the demise of real estate prices across the United States of America, and tips on how to sell your home amidst the chaos:

“I’ve been in the business 41 years, and this market is probably the worst it’s ever been in my career,” said one agent.

I like the tip about starting a blog about your house:

“I had never really heard of a blog before they had mentioned it,” Michael said. “But it’s actually turned out to be a pretty fun thing to do on a daily basis — just to update people and see if we can’t market it.”

A new writer to the blog

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

In an attempt to compete with tradermike.net, I have decided to expand uglychart.com. I would like to introduce a new author to the blog. He will go by the pen name “Bulldozer,” for reasons he would like to remain private. I have known him for a few years and he is a very smart, humorous and odd guy. He is a deep thinker and is interested in a wide variety of topics. With my help he has also learned to trade stocks very well. The team at uglychart.com is glad to welcome Bulldozer - we think he will make a great addition to the staff.
Readers and fans, please give a warm welcome to Bulldozer.

Random Pic #5: Serpico t-shirt

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

This is a picture of tè verde before breakfast in Monterosso, with my Serpico t-shirt. As you can see I have a cup of green tea for both the right and the left hand. My wife drank cappuccino.

Serpico was a great movie.

DOUBLE YOUR MONEY in 9 Months only at uglychart.com!

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

And how much does it cost you to read uglychart.com for these amazing stock picks? The low low price of $0, which is a great deal especially since the USD is weak.
I was watching FSLR rocket to the moon and I thought to myself, “man, I saw this one pretty early on. Let me search uglychart.com and see.” So I searched uglychart.com and saw that, besides a few day trades, I mentioned FSLR, along with BULK (symbol changed to NM) and SIMO on Feb 17, 2007.
Of these three picks, SIMO is down a bit, but FSLR is up 370% and NM (BULK) is up 124%.
So what are my picks for the next 9 months? Well, I’ve searched through hundreds of charts and here are my top two:
eHealth, Inc (EHTH)
EHTH
GeoEye, Inc. (GEOY)
GEOY
Disclosure: I currently have a position in GEOY.

Resveratrol on NPR

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

My wife let me know about a short NPR broadcast about resveratrol. Nothing really new for uglychart.com readers, but it’s interesting to hear from David Sinclair (of SIRT), who I posted about previously.

“This is proving what is potentially possible with drugs of the future,” Sinclair says. “So I’m saying that there might be a time when you could be prescribed a pill for, say, diabetes and as a side effect you might be protected against heart disease, cancer, and maybe even Alzheimer’s.”

The reason why I take resveratrol is that the possible benefits outweigh the risk. There are very few negative side-effects reported from the drug in animals, while there are lots of positive findings. There is always some risk, but it is a gamble I’m willing to take - especially after trying it and noticing some positive changes in myself.

“If you look at how much red wine, for example, you would have to consume,” Kaeberlein says, “it’s something like 300 glasses of red wine a day to get a comparable amount of resveratrol to what was given to the mice in this study.”

Sinclair says it’s actually more like 100 glasses. But that’s still a lot of drinking.

The pills I take are 500mg - the equivalent of 250 glasses of red wine.
I am a little concerned about taking resveratrol over a period of many years. Who knows what the side-effects could be from taking it for so long. But it is also possible that it could have substantial positive health benefits - like prevention of cancer, more endurance, and reduced effects of aging.

Update: here is another story about resveratrol on NPR.
