RevGenetics.com: "We do not use a European or Chinese foreign entity for testing.......".
Wow, I didn't know that Europe has the same low testing standards than China. As if by a miracle we resveratrol eaters are all still alive here in Europe despite this low standard!

Independent lab testing is important. Remember that Consumer Labs does it only once a year, but most folks herein the USA want it done every time a new resveratrol batch is encapsulated. When ordering resveratrol, you should ask about independent testing.

Very few companies do independent testing all the time, most do not.

Health: thanks, yes I have been taking bioforte
pete: then I would die today, but there is also a chance that I will never die
Berti: yes I have heard that and I don't know a lot about it. I think the kind I am taking is from grapes, though - so I haven't worried much about it
Hermann: I appreciate your comments - it was just annoying that one time when you were going on about my ego, which I felt had nothing to do with what I was talking about. I agree, you should be very very careful with your health. I am definitely taking a risk and it may not be worth it. But I find a little comfort knowing that large doses in mice hardly cause any side effects. And that it is an extracted ingredient in grapes. I think it is unlikely it could be really harmful and somewhat likely that it could be very beneficial. It is still a risk. But so is drinking tap water - isn't it?

Hey Ugly,

you probably do not appreciate my comments most of the time, but when it comes to health (especially your's) you should be very very careful. Instead of giving you some vague idea what could happen, I am just going to give you an example of what did happen: "Contergan" was a sleeping pill that was sold up to the 1960s that was said to have no side effects whatsover and they found out that it eveb helps against cancer. It was recommended to pregnant woman. In the 1960 they noticed that many woman that took Contergan got kids without arms and legs and similar disabilities. 2500 people also died in Germany alone because of that pill. It is still being sold under a different name, though it has never been sold in the USA. Please don't gamble with you health. What if they find out in a few years that it makes you impotent or causes cancer? Are the benefits really that great compared to the unpredictable downsides?

If you can read German, then you can read more Contergan here: http://www.3sat.de/3sat.php?http://www.3sat.de/ard/sendung/70086/index.html and here http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contergan-Skandal

Ugly,
I heard that resveratrol made from japanese knot-weed (which is cheaper) does not have the same quality than resveratrol made from grapes (more expensive).
Do you know something about this?

Consumer Lab has just published the results of their tests of the popular resveratrol brands. They show a huge variation in terms of quality, potency, price and adherence to the ingredient list on the product labels. Potencies range from less than 1mg to 500mg of the trans-resveratrol isomer. The tests should give anyone looking to take resveratrol a good guide to the ones that contain enough of the compound and at what price.

Dr. Betz recommends biotivia's bioforte or transmax as the source for resveratrol if one desires to achieve the levels of resveratrol used in the animal studies which would be equivalent to 250 glasses of red wine. They also offer lowest cost per mg.
