[...] On a sad note, not only did I scare Ugly away from futures, but now he won’t even daytrade at all. That’s a little extreme, but whatever. Good luck, Ugly. [...]

hi teresa, I don't think it is a sensitive question.
you can only never have a drawdown of >5% if you are fully leveraged, which is rare.
I guess the answer would be tight stops.

Now, this brings to mind a sensitive question, and if you have to kill me after you answer, feel free to withold the information!

Serious, with 1:20 leverage, that means a trading strategy can *never* have a drawndown > 5%. What's your approach to dealing with this constraint?

I thought I had read that the ATS was trading stocks with $1 capital, $9 borrowed. With the ER2, intraday margin currently allows something like 1:21 leverage.

hi teresa, I didn't - I kind of just went by $ results and how easy/difficult I thought it was. But after your comment I thought it over and I actually think both my futures account and my prop trading account had very similar leverage and are about the same size.
But thank you for bringing that up as I think it will be useuful for comparing results of backtesting for an ATS I am working on.

Ugly --

Did you calculate your leverage-adjusted performance, meaning if you traded stocks with the same leverage as futures, how would the results compare?

paul: thanks
Richard: I think it was a good experience - who knows? maybe it will be a better fit for your style.

It's funny because this comes at a time when I'm finally considering going to futures. I've been watching that eotpro group trade, and I may actually open a TradeStation account and try it. Still deciding. Part of it may be that I just get bored really easily, and am looking for something new to entertain me.
