A good non-partisan site for evaluating candidates is Project Vote Smart. Paul's entry starts at http://www.vote-smart.org/bio.php?can_id=296
I find the voting records and interest group ratings interesting.

The racism allegations are a consequence of some foul comments in his newsletter in 1992. From Wikipedia:

The article said that government should lower the legal age for prosecuting youths as adults, saying: "black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such." The article also said, "only about 5 percent of blacks have sensible political opinions," "If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be," and, "95 percent of the black males in [Washington, D.C.] are semi-criminal or entirely criminal."

In a 2001 interview with Texas Monthly magazine, Paul acknowledged that the comments were printed in his newsletter under his name, but that they were written by a ghostwriter and did not represent his views

Ron Paul made the most stupid remark about the USA deserving 911 and Rudy crushed him on National TV. THe guy has as much chance of getting elected as Osama bin Landen celebrating X-mas

If Ron Paul was a stock he would be at 52 week highs and climbing with heavy volume. The guy is making outstanding moves with a wide segment of voters...all this just to be totally ignored as an inconvenient nobody by the mainstream media. I am sure they are worried that if one of his great speeches were to be put before a national audience that people might actually begin to listen to him. He is a former medical doctor/surgeon who gave up practice to run for office. The racist thing is complete hogwash. He is the one candidate that makes sense to me.
