Thoughts on Wallstrip

Wallstrip is getting a lot of publicity lately. That’s great – it is a good idea and I hope it is a big success. I think it is getting publicity for a couple of reasons. One is through connections. Howard is pretty smart and knows how to work the connections. He made two great strategic moves by getting TraderMike and Fred Wilson involved. I am sure they have both helped tremendously with publicity and with ideas on the show. I have high respect for tradermike. I only met Fred briefly but he seems cool, too.
The other reason they are getting publicity is because it is a good idea. It is something new and needed. Another smart move by Howard.
Now for what I think are some problems with wallstrip.
Wallstrip doesn’t represent. Who is Lindsay? Yeah, she’s a cute actress but she doesn’t care about the stock market or know anything about it (except what she’s learned from doing wallstrip). I’d much rather see tradermike or Michelle Leder, or someone who writes a stock market blog – or someone who cares about the market – host the show. I was kind of embarrassed to see this interview for these reasons. I think the host of wallstrip needs to know the jargon – someone who has lived and breathed the market. Someone who spends hours every day looking at it and thinking about it. Someone who knows what’s happening in the market on a day-to-day basis.
Obviously Howard is trying to make money with wallstrip. There’s nothing wrong with that. Except, in my opinion, the best way to do that is to have more than just the goal of making money as your motive. I don’t find the show that funny or informative, but I feel that way about 95% of the stuff I see so maybe I am just too critical. As a trader, the show doesn’t offer me much.
What I had hoped for with wallstrip was a show created and hosted by “one of us.” Or maybe “some of us.” I can name a bunch of stock market blog writers who have a passion for the market and who I would love to see host or create the show.
My advice? Less Howard, Lindsay and Adam – more TraderMike, Michelle Leder, Shane, Brian, etc…
