Okay, I've read it. Great discussion. Thanks for the link.

I preferred the transcript over the MP3, btw. Although that might have to do with my inability to do other things on the computer when an audio file is playing.

'haven't read the article yet, but I definitely will.

I think we need a new term for people like my fiance. She is totally turned off by the Singularity. The idea of humans becoming machines scares her. If you talk to her about this kind of stuff, she'll come off as a luddite... talking about the same old stuff about a "simpler life", etc. "I don't want to live forever."

But at the same time, Kim is an early adopter of technology, just like me. She's adopted cell phones, iPods, advanced skincare treatments, whatever farily early. So both you and I know that this whole turning into machines thing is a gradual process, and it will happen to her too... and she'll like it.

Ray K. talks about these kinds of people (most of everyone) often. If you talk to them about step 20, they are scared. But if you offer them the next step ("here is a pill that will make you never gain weight"), they'll eat it up. Is there a term for these fake luddites?
