Resveratrol/green tea supplement
I’ve posted before about the health benefits of green tea and red wine. I have one or two glasses of red wine per day and four cups or green tea. The trouble is that in the experiments that have shown benefits with mice, the mice often take a much higher dose per kilogram of weight than I get from my daily routine.
So I thought I would try taking a supplement.
Benefits of resvertrol are still unproven in humans, but I think the possible benefits outweigh the potential risks. According to wikipedia, the US government is concerned about the potential dangers of increased, unregulated usage but a “preliminary study of existing research found little evidence that resveratrol is toxic, even at very high dosages.”
I ordered the Jarrow Formulas Synergy supplement, which has 16mg of resveratrol per capsule, or the equivalent of 10-50 glasses of wine. You can get some other supplements that have 500mg of resveratrol, which is about the equivalent of what mice are given in experiments.
This supplement also contains 200mg of green tea extract. And 50mg of grape seed OPCs, which I don’t know much about but here is the wikipedia entry. I’m not sure if this will do any good, but it seems like it can’t hurt to give it a try.
I’m gong to try it out for a couple of months and see how it makes me feel.
