Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT)

Friday, July 28th, 2006

LMT is making new all-time highs. What a great stock - it has done nothing but make money for shareholders. Despite the ~67% drop from 1998-2000, it never broke its steady uptrend:

US Airways Group, Inc. (LCC)

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

It was a choppy, boring day today. On a day like this, it is hard to trade and I am satisfied with any profit I can get. There weren’t (m)any good setups that worked on my watchlist. I was in the red most of the day and it looked like I was going to finish with about a 1R loss, but I was lucky and shorted LCC before it dropped later in the afternoon:

Two more trading days to finish off the month of July. I am just under my best month in terms of dollar profit, so I am going to see if I can climb over it tomorrow and Monday.

Today the market is a bitty light yellow

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Daniel Tammet’s new book, Born On A Blue Day: A Memoir of an Extraordinary Mind, has moved to #9 in the Sunday Times Non-Fiction Hardcover Bestseller list after its first full week of sales. From his blog:

Mondays are purple, Tuesdays are a much warmer, orange colour, Thursdays are a bitty light yellow, Fridays are aubergine-coloured, Saturdays are curvy and Sundays are very bright and shiny.

When someone asks me to calculate the day of the week he/she was born on, I see the colours and textures in my head and translate them into the answer.

Ugly Picks

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
Wow, AMKR is getting killed this morning. That’s why I like being a day trader. And check out AKAM - really ugly day yesterday and this morning it is gapping up 20%. That’s earnings season for you.

Want to simplify? Add Lose a monitor

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

It’s ironic that I have recently been trading from the coffee shop without the additional monitor I usually use in my office - posting about how it simplifies things to have less information in my view - and there is a recent article about how adding a monitor will simplify your life.

While most people are happy with two screens, Microsoft researchers found that the optimal desktop setup involves three: a monitor in the middle of your field of vision and then one on each side.

I agree that extra monitors make things easier, but I don’t know if it simplifies anything. Last week, when I was forced to trade with only one monitor, I realized that I used the extra screen for more lists and scans, which are distracting. With VirtuaWin, I can switch over to the other “virutal monitor” when I want, but it is not always in my field of view - and this makes it less distracting. It also makes it difficult to overtrade. Obviously it’s not for everyone - but you might want to give it a try. I enjoy its simplicity and mobility.

Amkor Technology Inc. (AMKR)

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Today I missed AMKR:
AMKR
It was on my watchlist and offered a very narrow candle at 10:30, but I didn’t take it because I was looking for shorts. I came very close to going long AMKR.
But it was a choppy day - I am almost always satisfied on a day like today if I can make any profit.
