Withnail & I (1987)

Friday, December 30th, 2005

I wasn’t really expecting much from this movie partly because it only got 2.5 stars from Leonard Maltin and also because it is a cult film and that usually turns me off. However, I was pleasantly surpised with Withnail & I. I actually liked it a lot and thought it was really funny. Set in the late sixties, it is also a movie about freedom and friendship. I highly recommend drinking at least a half bottle of wine while watching this movie. A half bottle of wine makes many things more enjoyable, but it especially makes this movie more fun.

Patrick Byrne and Mark Cuban

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

Check out the wikipedia entry on Patrick Byrne, CEO of OSTK:

Patrick Byrne is the current (2005) CEO of Overstock.com. He belives that there is a ‘cabal’ that is out to kill overstock.com. He also has admitted to making up stories about being gay and a coke-head to try to unvail this cabal.

Apparently he thinks that Mark Cuban, who “once paid all the years fines of $1 million dollars to the NBA in US pennies,” is a “Sith Lord.” Both of these guys are characters. Check this out:

Byrne does not appear to take Overstock’s customer service problems seriously, downplaying the influx of complaints as minor issues here and small glitches there. “My bad” was his response to a horrible third quarter performance.

GMX Resources Inc (GMXR)

GMXR set up a nice dummy short today. If you sold below the 11:30 candle you would have netted over a 10R profit:

Ugly Picks

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
CASM today proved that it is a force to be reckoned with.
XJT bit the dust. So did SVL - ouch.
TRE and GMXR are going totally nuts.
Recent IPO UARM is doing just fine, as is SPWR.

My last day at my old job was Friday. Now I am preparing to begin trading. I have been thinking of ideas for the last month that I will now solidify. I believe the greatest challenge I face will be psychological. This will be my first time trading for a living and I have and will be doing some preparation to ease this pressure. I am going to try to focus on returns in proportion to risk and try not to think about the money. I will try to establish a routine. The market is familiar to me, but the new surroundings are unfamiliar and I am eager to adjust and become more comfortable.

Ugly Picks

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
I believe it would be a low risk buying opportunity for the BBH as it seems to be moving up from its trendline:

Obviously it could go down from here, but the odds are better that it will go up.
Japan is going nuts.
Recent IPO ITRN looks very good.
I think that the top 100 stocks ranked by alpha may even be a more important list than the all-time high list. At least for day traders, it definitely is. The top 100 alpha stocks are stocks that are going to be making the big moves. These are the stocks that have the attention of the market, and since they have the attention, each move made will be deeper and more exaggerated.
Often, a stock will be frequently seen on both lists. Take for example, TRE.
Also, GMXR.
I don’t mean to lessen the importance of the all-time high list. It is a list of many beautiful stocks. The most beautiful charts in the market.
