Ugly Picks

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
GROW is sprouting like a weed. It is way above its 20dma. It will have to pull back at some point.
A great stock for a day trade - can you spot the dummy entry?

Long at 11.51 on a buy stop over the 10:30 bar with an initial protective stop at 11.39.
BBBB is looking great.
NSSC is very strong.

Let’s all welcome Monksdream to the board

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

After publishing the Market Street newsletter for months, Monksdream mysteriously disappeared. Myself and others lost all contact with him. After almost giving up hope in re-establishing contact, he emailed me and has reappeared on the uglychart.com discussion board. I am excited to have him as I am a fan and examined each of his newsletters closely. Here is an example [pdf] of one of his newsletters.

Traders defeat themselves

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

As I am planning to quit my job and become a day trader, I have been thinking about the system that I will use. I would like to use almost the same type of trading that I have been currently using, but on a shorter time scale. Similar to my current system, I hope to trade the trends and use strict money management rules. But because of the smaller time scale, the trends will be smaller. Because of the increased number of trades, profits will be smaller and my stops will be more tight.
One of the first places I looked is Maoxian’s Trading for Dummies series. He describes a system of day trading in about 100 short lessons:

One sensitive soul wrote in to ask if I wasn’t giving away the keys to the kingdom with these how-to posts. The answer is that good trading is 10% methodology and 90% psychology. People defeat themselves. It doesn’t matter how often you repeat basic trading principles when almost no one will practice them.

Ugly Picks

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
Here is a riddle for you: If HANS is currently up over 100% from where I sold it for over 100% profit, how much profit would I currently have if I had not sold it?
GROW is headed for the sky.
JOYG made another new all-time high and is a beauty of a stock.

World Chess Beauty Contest

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

In contrast to the World Chess Beauty Contest website that is in all the news lately, I may create the World Chess Ugly Contest. As a chess player, I know there would be many many more contestants. This beauty contest website, created by GM Vladislav Tkachiev, is a lame and dorky idea - typical of a chess player. I am guilty of the same as I posted about this before.

Tkachiev said that the people who do not play the game have a wrong opinion about chess. “They think that it is only a game for those who are quite inactive and unattractive and aged,” he said.

Yes, they are wrong - it is a game for those who are inactive, unattractive, aged and crazy.
Although there are exceptions - the picture is of International Woman Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk. See more photos on her website.

Wandering Samurai Film Fest Heads to San Francisco

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

I was lucky enough to get a chance to see some of these films in NYC and in Minneapolis - now they will be shown on the west coast at the Balboa Theater in San Francisco Dec 2 - 22. I strongly recommend Harakiri - which opens the event on Dec 2 - 6. For those of you who haven’t seen all of the Kurosawa movies, they are also a must-see.
Here is an article about it in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Ugly Picks

Monday, November 28th, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
The markets are pulling back a little here. How much will it pull back? It is too soon to say, but since the trend has been up I would guess it will continue that way eventually.
HANS made yet another new all-time high and moved up to the #7 slot on the top 100 alpha charts. What a beauty.
NWRE, located just around the corner from me, made a new all-time high.
IFO is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Hmmm, COBR is looking interesting with a new 20-year high.

I didn’t renew my subscription with IBD, I am just too cheap. It sure makes things easier, though, and I miss it.
