That’s what I’m talking about

I’d say this is more bullish than bullshi:

Powerball

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

The powerball jackpot is up to $340 million, which is the second-biggest lottery jackpot in US history. The drawing is tonight. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 146,107,962. Tickets are $1 each, so why not just buy 146,107,962 of them? Pete Rose did just that.
You have a seven times better chance of becoming a saint and you’re six times more likely to get elected president of the United States than winning the jackpot. Most mathematicians don’t play - via the Strib.

Charles Kirk is the man

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Charles “Chucky” Kirk, of the Kirk Report, linked to my website about a month ago in one of his posts. It significantly increased my daily hits for a couple of days and made me realize how many readers he has. Especially becuase the link to uglychart.com was near the bottom of a long list of other links.
He lives in the Twin Cities, where I lived for a few years. A couple of times I invited him to meet up, but I had no luck. I am sure he gets a lot of email and mine could have slipped through the cracks.
A couple of other stock market blog writers have expressed some slight animosity towards him for various reasons, including but not limited to taking material from their sites without reference. These were just comments that I have heard from some of them without their getting into detail or providing any proof. I do not know if it is true or not.
He definitely writes one of the most widely read stock market blogs on the internet.
I am heading to the Twin Cities at the end of the month and I am going to send him another email and try to meet up with him. Maybe I can do an interview.

Kurzweil podcast

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

The first part of a five-part podcast with Ray Kurzweil is available on InformationWeek. I am eager to read his book, which I have ordered and is on its way.
I see that the second of five podcasts is also up here, in which he goes into a discussion on “consciousness” and emotions in artificial intelligence.

Atlantic City, USA

Monday, October 17th, 2005

I went to Atlantic City over the weekend and played some poker at the Borgata. What a blast. I had loads of fun and I expect to go back at least once a month. I lost money in craps and roulette - I didn’t really know what I was doing. But I made it back and then some with poker. A lot of people prefer playing online, rather than in a casino, because you can play right from your home, faster action, convenience, etc… I prefer playing at a casino because I think it is more fun and especially because I know I am not playing against a computer. But as long as you are profitable, it doesn’t really matter where you play.

Ugly Picks

Monday, October 17th, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,

“Muddy water, let stand - becomes clear”
- Lao Tzu

That is my feeling on the market right now. The water is a little muddy and hard to look through. I will let it settle a few days so that I can see it more clearly. Basically, I am not yet convinced of the bullish side. It could be true, but I need to see some confirmation - mainly some volume - to be convinced. Especially nice would be to see the volume with a break through some of the resistance (e.g. the 200dma’s). The market took a hard hit recently and it is better to be cautious, especially with all of this earnings nonsense going on.

HLEX broke out from a base and looks pretty good.
I have no idea how high WBMD will go, but if it trades over $30, I think it will go higher.
You are right, ARXT does look pretty good.
I’d watch EPE, too.
