Ugly Picks

Monday, October 24th, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
There goes REDF. How nice for all of the longs.
WFMI made another new high. I love that store. There are two of them in downtown Philadelphia. But I just went to the privately held Trader Joe’s and I think I might like it even more.
Another winner, CRDN, also made a new high - its earnings are this week.
I give TWGP a very high recommendation.
I also give a very high recommendation for ANST.
IRIS is another winner.
Portfolio pick SRLS finally busted a move - I think this is the start of something big.

ABC News on Life Extension

Monday, October 24th, 2005

ABC News has an article about extending life. They go into caloric restriction, the Singularity and cryonic suspension. Not much detail, but there is a scary picture of caloric restrictionist Lisa Walford, daughter of Ray, and I didn’t know that “Ted Williams, the former Boston Red Sox star, had his head severed from his body and frozen at Alcor Life Extension Foundation.”

Sudoku

Monday, October 24th, 2005

Have you guys played Sudoku yet? It is an addictive logic-based number puzzle.

“The attraction of the puzzle is that the completion rules are simple, yet the line of reasoning required to reach the completion may be difficult. Sudoku is recommended by some teachers as an exercise in logical reasoning. The level of difficulty of the puzzles can be selected to suit the audience. The puzzles are often available free from published sources and also may be custom-generated using software.”

Here is a website that shows you a step by step process to create your own puzzle.

Ugly Picks

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
GOOG did it again. It will go up until it doesn’t.
URBN also made another high.
Although it is far from certain, watching winning stocks like these make new highs gives me faith that the market will continue up from here.
PRSC looks nice, too.

Coming to take your cheese, hoe

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Because of my trip to Atlantic City and influence from some readers and friends, I have started playing online poker again. I am used to a lot of trash talk from my years of experience playing online chess. It is fun and harmless and can be pretty humorous. It is a lot like the yahoo message board chatter. Some guy joined my table today, recognized someone and said “coming to take your cheese, hoe.” I thought that was a pretty good one.
Speaking of chess and betting, PinnacleSports.com has become the first sportsbook to accept bets on professional chess.

“While it may not seem as popular as football or basketball, chess is played by millions around the globe and has as loyal a following as any other major sport. Individuals have been betting on the outcome of chess matches for hundreds of years, so we felt it was only natural to offer the world a way to bet on the U.S. Chess League.”

Ugly Picks

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Good morning, my name is Ugly, and I am a loser. I have it in me to do serious financial damage to my account.

Dear Diary,
AAPL defies gravity once again as it closes at another all-time high.
A lot of people are getting caught on the short side of the stick. I could feel them start to panic late in the afternoon. I have sympathy for them but I am glad it is them and not me.
Today was a perfect follow-through day. It is exactly what I was looking for. A high volume break over the 200dma resistance. Unless the market turns sharply and strongly lower soon, I think the trend will remain up until it doesn’t. IBD makes a good point: “Just remember: While every new bull market in history started with a follow-through day, not every follow-through leads to a big rally.”
I really like the looks of the chart for TBH. It is breaking out of a long narrow trading range.
SMTS has been strong for a while, and its strength continues.
Speaking of continuing strength, TEVA is a beauty of a stock.
FAST looks excellent as it is breaking out of a range to new all-time highs.
PPDI looks like it is on its way to $100.
GFIG, though, is my baby. I love this one. Why don’t I own this one yet?
PSYS looks awesome. They were buying the solid stocks today.
I will probably buy some of these stocks tomorrow. Always be careful about earnings - you don’t want to get one that gaps down on you the next morning.
I think Chairman MaoXian’s appetite for pork rinds alone is bringing PORK to new highs.
